About L.E.A.P.
Lawyers' Endowment For Accident Prevention |
Although, as personal injury lawyers, we get a lot of satisfaction from helping injured people after accidents, it is even more gratifying to do something before the fact to help people avoid accidents all together. Such is the mission of Lawyers' Endowment for Accident Prevention, L.E.A.P. for short, which was established as a tax-exempt charitable foundation in 1990. Since then member attorneys have donated over $40,000.00 to fund accident prevention projects, including:
• a video security system at a local high school;
• Life Saver give-a-ways to elementary children who arrived at school "buckled-up";
• free, quality bike helmets to all children at a local grade school who did not already have one, for several years;
• "Eagle Project" bike helmet give-away;
• $1,000.00 college scholarships at high school "Grad Nights" each year for several years running, to encourage graduating seniors to celebrate in a safe, alcohol-free environment;
• free gun locks to Utah Hunter Safety Instructors statewide, together with training so the instructors could, in turn, teach their Hunter Safety students throughout Utah the benefits of gun locks;
• free gun locks to many hundreds of gun owners;
• free safety equipment to a local school for the severely handicapped;
• "Peer Leadership" funding for high school role models to discourage drug and alcohol use among middle and grade school students;
• co-sponsoring the International Conference for Accident Reduction, hosted by the Utah Highway Patrol.
If you are a personal injury lawyer or firm interested in becoming a member of L.E.A.P. and furthering its described purpose, we welcome your participation and will be happy to explain how you can become a L.E.A.P. member.
On the other hand, if you, or an organization you belong to, are effectively involved in saving limbs and lives and minimizing suffering, but you are in need of funding, we invite you to submit a grant proposal to L.E.A.P. We would be pleased to help, to the extent we can.
